Remembering Peter Christoffersen

Honouring a professor, colleague and friend

Peter Christoffersen

Honouring a professor, colleague, and friend

We are saddened to report that Professor Peter Christoffersen, our friend and colleague, passed away on June 22, 2018 at home.  He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Peter had been battling cancer for some time and was supported throughout by his wife Professor Susan Christoffersen, Vice-Dean Undergraduate and Pre-Experience Programs at the Rotman School, and their sons Phillip and Nicholas.  Our hearts go out to the whole family.

Peter held the TMX Chair in Capital Markets and a Bank of Canada Fellowship and was a widely respected member of the Rotman School since 2010, when both he and Susan joined the Rotman School from McGill University. Prior to that, he was an economist at the International Monetary Fund. Peter was a Professor of Finance. He took a variety of leadership roles in the School, including Academic Director of Rotman FinHub and Co-director of the Master of Financial Risk Management program.

For the broader Rotman and University communities, a celebration of Peter’s life and achievements will be held at the Rotman School on July 18 in Desautels Hall. The doors will open at 3:15 pm. Remarks will start at 3:30 pm. A reception to follow.

The Globe and Mail obituary is available here.

To honour Peter’s life and dedication to scholarship, teaching, and academic excellence, the Peter Christoffersen Scholarship will be created. For more information on how to donate please visit this special donation page  or contact: development@rotman.utoronto.ca .

This is a great loss and Peter will be terribly missed by the Rotman community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Susan and her sons.
