LUISS University Wins Annual Trading Competition at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management for the Second Year in a Row.

Toronto – For the second consecutive year a team from LUISS University in Italy has won the Rotman International Trading Competition at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
 
The Italian team headed off the competition from 300 student traders, analysts, and risk managers representing 45 different universities across Canada, United States, Europe, Africa and Asia who participated in the 12th annual competition.
 
A team of Master of Financial Engineering students from the University of California, Berkeley placed 2nd while teams from the University of Windsor, the Haskayne School of Business at University of Calgary, and the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University rounded out the top five.
 
“The vibe and the dedication, not to mention the effort that the participants put into the cases, are admirable.” said Marco Salerno, the manager of the BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab.
 
“We’re pleased that RITC continues to be one of the premiere global student competitions and are already looking forward to next year’s edition”, added Prof. Tom McCurdy, who is the Bonham Chair in International Finance and Founding Director of the Lab.
 
The competition took place in the Rotman School’s state-of-the-art BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab and utilized the Rotman Interactive Trader, an order-driven market simulator.  Teams participated in various activities including electronic and outcry trading cases, seminars with industry practitioners, and social events with their fellow competitors.
 
Winners of individual cases included the University of South Africa, Peking University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Calgary, Concordia University, and Chulalongkorn University from Thailand.
 
BP Energy Company was the sponsor of the BP Commodities Trading Case this year and was also the main Gold sponsor.  Silver level sponsors were S&P Capital IQ and Optiver US. Additional support was provided by DRW Trading Group, Thomson Reuters and MathWorks.
 
The Rotman School’s BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is a fully equipped lab designed to promote experiential learning in the area of financial markets and data. The competition cases are implemented over the highly acclaimed Rotman Interactive Trader application, a market simulation tool being used in over 40 universities and financial institutions around the world.
