Toronto - Four teams composed of students and alumni from MBA programs at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management have advanced to the regional finals of the 6th annual Hult Prize. The prize is the world’s largest student competition and start-up platform for social good. In partnership with President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative, student teams will compete in five cities around the world for a chance to secure $1 million in start-up funding to launch a sustainable social venture. This year’s competition is focused on improving early childhood education in urban slums.
Team Attollo advanced to the regional finals in Dubai after
winning a quarter final event held at the Rotman School in December. Team members include Peter Cinat, MBA’14; Aisha Bukhari, Morning MBA’15; Lak Chinta, Morning MBA’15 and James Austin, Morning MBA’15. The other three Rotman MBA teams were chosen from more than 20,000 applications from hundreds of schools.
Also participating in the Dubai regional finals is Team Yasli with members Katya Kudashkina, Morning MBA’15; Katie Gardon, Evening MBA’15; Jessica (Currie) Kuhn, MBA’14; and Dana Lepshokova, Morning MBA’15.
Participating in the San Francisco regional final is Team CTRL-N with members Astrum Nanji, Full Time MBA’16; Jason Visscher, Full Time MBA’15; Shaira Nanji JD/MBA’12; Mark Kochanski, Full Time MBA’15; and, Marianne D'Souza, Full Time MBA’16.
Participating in Shanghai regional final is Team Udadisi with members Basel Jarrad, Evening MBA’15; Candice Luck, Morning MBA’15; Pauline Wu, Morning MBA’15; Jennifer Flexman, Morning MBA’15; and Ali Yousaf, Evening MBA’15.
Following the regional finals, one winning team from each host city will move into a summer business incubator in Boston, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set up to launch their new social business. A final round of competition will be hosted by the Clinton Global Initiative at its annual meeting in September 2015, where CGI delegates will select a winning team to be awarded a $1-million prize.
