Rotman School’s Centre for Health Sector Strategy Guided by Advisory Board Drawn from Industry, Government and Academia.

Toronto – Since its founding in 2004, the Centre for Health Sector Strategy at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management has worked on an innovation agenda that produces actionable management and policy knowledge for the health sector and the life sciences. In addition, the initiatives of the Centre include an MBA major in Health Sector Management, as well as Executive Programs  with Rotman Executive Programs for health-care professionals.

The Centre under the leadership of Prof. Brian Golden, Vice-Dean, Professional Programs and the Sandra Rotman Chair in Health Sector Strategy, has recently convened an advisory board.  The Board, chaired by Matt Anderson, CEO, William Osler Health Centre, includes leaders from public and private sectors organizations:

  • Georgina Black, Partner & National Health Sector Lead, KPMG Canada;
  • Linda Blair, Partner, National Health Services, Deloitte;

  • Stacey Daub, CEO, Toronto Central Central Community Care Access Centre;

Among other issues, the Centre is currently conducting research and advising on:

  • The redesign of Ontario’s primary healthcare system
  • Commercialization of life-sciences products and services;
  • The role of the private sector in healthcare delivery and technology;
  • Alliances in the health sector: public-public, private-private and public-private;
  • Performance management, governance and control;
  • Organizational redesign and system integration; and, 
  • Sustainability of public funding in Canadian healthcare.

The Rotman School offers a major in Health Sector Management for students in the School’s Full-Time, Morning and Evening MBA programs. It focuses on management in health care delivery systems, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sales and marketing, life sciences product commercialization, and related consulting and financial industries. The major also introduces students to various regulatory bodies and procedures in the health sector. The lead faculty, in addition to Prof. Brian Golden are:

  • Prof. Will Mitchell, Anthony S. Fell Chair in New Technologies and Commercialization; 
  • Prof. Mark Stabile,  Founding Director of the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto;

  • Zayna Khayat, Lead of MaRS Health and Director of MaRS EXCITE.

The Centre, in partnership with Rotman Executive Programs, is Canada’s leading academic provider of healthcare executive programs, and offers health sector programs which equip professionals with the knowledge and business skills to lead and manage their organizations effectively in a complex field that is constantly evolving.
