Rotman Management Celebrates 10 Years of Thought Leadership.

May 17, 2017

Toronto – With its Spring 2017 issue, Rotman Management magazine celebrates 10 years of bringing readers the latest thought leadership from the realm of management.

Beginning with its Spring 2007 edition, the magazine,  published by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, has offered readers a unique mix of input from Rotman faculty; leading academics from top tier business schools such as Stanford, INSEAD and Harvard; and thought leaders/practitioners from the realms of business, economics, psychology, design thinking and more.

“The magazine started out as a traditional alumni publication, filled with school news, alumni profiles and class notes.  But as the Rotman School grew its reputation as a global ‘hub’ for thought leadership, over the years, it morphed into more of a Harvard Business Review-style content-based magazine,” says Karen Christensen, Editor in Chief.

The magazine has received positive reviews from senior leaders at companies like McKinsey & Co., the BBC and Steelcase. Management guru Tom Peters, author of In Search of Excellence, recently tweeted, “Read [the fall 2016 issue] cover to cover: Superb. Put aside a day!"  Articles from the magazine have been featured in the global media, from Forbes India to The Australian to The Globe & Mail.

Along the way, Rotman Management has been nominated for five National Magazine Awards in Canada, winning a Silver in 2009 for Art Direction and a Silver in 2014 for Best Single Issue (for the Fall 2013 Legacy Issue).  The Magazine began selling subscriptions in 2009, and today has paid subscribers in 47 countries.  It is sold on Canadian newsstands from coast to coast, and for the next year, will be featured in 12 Air Canada Maple Leaf lounges around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, London, Frankfurt, Paris and Toronto. The magazine recently introduced a mobile-friendly app version, which is available at the App Store and Google Play.

The content in the magazine is ‘evergreen’: It is not based on current business news, but instead on ‘a new way to think’ about modern leadership, so readers can pick up an issue from five years ago and still learn from it. Each issue has a theme, and topics covered to date include Thinking About Thinking, Accountability, Disruption and Smart Power. “In each case, you can learn from the world’s foremost authorities on that topic,” adds Christensen.
