Scholarship in Honour of Joseph Rotman Awarded at University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management

September 25, 2017

Toronto – For the second year, a Joseph L. Rotman Scholarship has been awarded to an incoming student in the Full-Time MBA program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Heather Beatty is the recipient of the full tuition scholarship, which she received, based on the strength of her overall application to the MBA program, where she described herself as “gritty, empathetic, resourceful, curious, and uninhibited."

Beatty is a graduate of Dartmouth College where she was the award-winning captain of the NCAA Division 1 Varsity Ski Team. Most recently, she worked as a forecasting analyst with Canadian Tire and is currently a volunteer with Start Proud, Canada’s largest LGBTQA+ non-profit that facilitates the professional development of LGBTQA+ students.

The merit-based scholarship is named in honour of the School's visionary benefactor Joseph Rotman, who passed away in January 2015.

"Each year we are committed to honouring Joe’s commitment to excellence in education and to developing exceptional future leaders.  We are thrilled to award Heather the Joseph L Rotman Scholarship -- our most generous and prestigious award," says Dean Tiff Macklem.

Together with his wife Sandra, the Rotman family is among the most generous donors in the University’s history. In 2016, they gave $30 million to the School that established the Rotman Catalyst Fund, which is acting as a “venture fund” for the Rotman School, used to fund bold and innovative initiatives to continue to transform management education and to increase the impact of the School’s students and new thinking.

The Rotman School of Management is located in the heart of Canada’s commercial and cultural capital and is part of the University of Toronto, one of the world’s top 20 research universities. The Rotman School fosters a new way to think that enables our graduates to tackle today’s global business and societal challenges.  For more information, visit www.rotman.utoronto.ca.
