Toronto, September 27, 2011 - A total of twelve appointments have been made to the faculty at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management for the 2011/12 academic year. Appointments have been made in the areas of strategic management, marketing, accounting, organizational behaviour and human resources, and finance.
“These appointments will strengthen our teaching capabilities in all of the programs we offer and will further enhance our already outstanding track record in academic research,” says Joel Baum, Professor and Associate Dean, Faculty.
Joshua Gans joins the Rotman School as the Jeffrey S. Skoll Chair of Technical Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a professor of strategic management. Previously he was at the Melbourne Business School and his teaching and research interests include applied game theory, network and digital market strategy, and the economics of innovation and science.
As previously announced, Will Mitchell joins the Rotman School from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Management. He will be a visiting professor of strategic management during the 2011-12 academic year and also hold the Anthony S. Fell Chair in New Technologies and Commercialization for the duration of his visit. In addition to his expertise in health care management, Prof. Mitchell studies business dynamics, focusing on how businesses in developed and emerging markets change as the competitive environments change and, in turn, how the business changes contribute to ongoing corporate success or failure.
Aparna Labroo comes to the Rotman School from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago as a professor of marketing and will also hold the Patricia C. Ellison Professorship of Marketing. Her research is in the areas of consumer decision making and subjective wellbeing and the roles that below-the-radar feelings play in such decisions.
Alexander Edwards joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of accounting. He recently completed a PhD from the University of Washington. His research interests include financial reporting, taxes and their effects on business, and distressed firms.
Redouane Elkhami comes to the Rotman School from the University of Iowa as an assistant professor of finance. His research interests include financial markets and risk management.
Jacob Hirsch joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of organizational behavior and human resource management. Previously, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Northwestern University. Research interests include emotion, self-regulation, and decision-making, and performance prediction and personnel selection.
Will Huggins has been appointed as a Lecturer in Finance. Since 2008, he has been a sessional lecturer at the Rotman School.
Michael Khan has been appointed as a Lecturer in Accounting. Since 2001 he has been a sessional lecturer.
Fotini Tolias has been appointed as a Lecturer in Finance. Since 2009, she has been a sessional lecturer at the Rotman School.
In addition, three appointments to the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), will be cross-appointed to the Rotman School.
Ambarish Chandra will be an assistant professor of business economics at UTSC.
Sonia Kang will be an assistant professor of organizational behaviour and human resource management at UTM.
Gabor Virag will be an assistant professor of business economics at UTM.
