Scholarship established in memory of Brad Griffiths

Toronto, August 2, 2011 - A scholarship has been established in memory of Brad Griffiths by the friends, family and colleagues of the Toronto financier at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Griffiths was a fixture of the investment banking and energy industries in Canada for more than thirty years. A graduate of UofT (BCom’79), he passed away suddenly earlier this month. The Bradley David Griffiths Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to an MBA student at the Rotman School with a background or interest in pursuing a career in finance, investment banking or energy.

“This memorial scholarship will be a fitting tribute to a man who was not only a leader in the field of finance but a valued mentor to countless people. Brad would be gratified to know that he will continue to have an impact on the many deserving students who will benefit from this endowment,” said Pamela Read, Brad’s sister, on behalf of the family.

Griffiths was one of the co-founders of GMP Capital Inc., one of the most successful independent investment dealers in the country. Before he established that firm, he had held roles at CIBC, Gordon Capital Corp., Canaccord Capital and McFarlane Gordon. In recent years he turned his attention to endeavours in the energy sector including serving as chairman of Griffiths Energy International and chief financial officer and chairman at United Hunter Oil.
