BMO Financial Group Finance Research & Trading Lab

With increasing globalization, market and corporate developments require rapid, accurate, and in-depth analysis. To ensure its students remain competitive, the Rotman School runs its own renowned BMO Financial Group Finance Research & Trading Lab, which combines some of the most advanced computer hardware with sophisticated financial analysis software and databases.

Globalization has vastly expanded the size and scope of the world’s financial markets. To stay competitive, financial professionals need to provide rapid, accurate and in-depth analysis. To deliver the crucial hands-on experience that gives our students an edge, Rotman runs its own BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab.

This state-of-the-art facility combines some of the most advanced financial analysis software and databases with direct access to the global financial community and its resources. Our proprietary applications, like Rotman Portfolio Manager and Rotman Interactive Trader, link to real-time data feeds and allow users to purchase and sell stocks, options, futures and fixed income investments from North American markets. Simulations challenge students to practice different types of investment, trading and hedging strategies, and test their ability to apply theory in real-world situations.

MFin students have full access to all of the resources available in the lab. Highlights include:

  1. Data feeds from Bloomberg, Reuters 3000 Xtra and Reuters Station
  2. Access to key research databases: DataStream, ExecuComp, Reuters DealScan, SDC Platinum Global New Issues, I/B/E/S, Optionmetrics, NYSE TAQ and many more
  3. Practical application: Software including Rotman Interactive Trader, Rotman Portfolio Manager, Portfolio Chooser and Capital IQ
