At the Rotman School of Management we pride ourselves in preparing our students for their next career move, whatever that may be. The support needed to achieve this varies from program to program, and from individual to individual, which is why we have a dedicated member of the careers service for each of our programs. In this post we speak to Jessica Yu, who will be the key career contact for Master of Management Analytics students.

Hi Jessica, Can you tell us a little about your background?

Absolutely! For the last 10 years, I have been on the other side of the recruitment table as a Co-op / New Grad Recruiter. I have experience in the financial, consulting and high-tech industries. I joined Rotman last year as an Industry Advisor in the full-time MBA program bridging the relationships between Rotman students and the healthcare, tech, automotive and entrepreneurship industries.

As time progressed, I learned about the exciting field of data which made me gravitate towards the Master of Management Analytics program. I am thrilled to be part of the program and cannot wait to meet the students!

What can students expect from the Careers Services team?

The goal of the career services team is to provide customized programming for each individual to be successful in their career search. Students will meet with me 1:1 to discuss and create a career search strategy; be able to participate in Master of Management Analytics-focused workshops to further hone their careers-related skills and have access to the career service team’s vast network of employers and friendly alumni.

All programming will be shared on RCareer (the Rotman internal career portal) or via email. As a student remember to check those tools frequently to ensure you do not miss any important events.

How can accepted students get a head start of their career search?

Great question. The career services team has provided resources to prepare students prior to the program start date (around July/August prior to your start date). We strongly recommend students to review / complete the exercises as soon as possible so we can be ready to support you from day 1:

  1. Customized Resources: Based on the in-depth analysis, the team provided resources and materials to review
  2. StrengthsFinder: An online career survey to help students find their strengths
  3. Career Services Survey: A questionnaire which provides the career services team insight into the areas where a student would need more programming to become career ready

Do you have any final words for the students before they arrive on campus?

It will be a busy but rewarding time at Rotman. Rest up and be prepared to be engaged on campus.

Students will leave the program with a wealth of new skills, friends, and a large professional network. Remember to leverage available resources to get the most out of the program. Start by booking an appointment with me on RCareer!

The career services team are super excited to be welcoming the first MMA class soon, to have each one of them on campus and look forward to working with them over the 9 months.

The Master of Management Analytics is designed to give students the advanced data management, analytics and communication skills needed to become an analytics professional.
