About Rotman DesignWorks

Our mission: To develop the future designers of business - those who can create new value in a dynamic and ambiguous world.

Rotman DesignWorks is the Business Design Studio at the Rotman School of Management. We teach students how to tackle complex business challenges using Business Design, a human-centred, creative problem solving methodology. We draw on the designer’s way of working and apply it to the way we build businesses – from innovative user experiences to creative business strategies and models.

Rotman DesignWorks was established in 2005 by Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School and Heather Fraser, Adjunct Professor and Expert in Residence. The goal was to enable business with the skills and abilities to “tackle their toughest challenges and design new strategies for success”[1]. Since then, the initiative has made great strides in education and practice through the MBA curriculum, executive workshops, research projects and community outreach - demonstrating the value of Business Design to organizations around the world.
