Larry Wasser is President of L. W. Capital Corporation, a private investment firm which offers strategic, advisory and consulting services.
He was previously Vice Chairman and prior to that President of Genuity Fund Management Inc., a hedge fund catering to high net worth investors in Canada and abroad. He frequently appears on BNN, Canada’s business news network, and was a regular panelist on The Pitch, a weekly television show on BNN that aired from 2011 to 2013.
Larry has an H.B.A. from the University of Toronto (1978).
Previously, Larry was Chairman and CEO of Beamscope Canada Inc., one of Canada’s largest sales, marketing and distribution companies of consumer electronics products and computer products. He founded Beamscope in 1982 and built it to over $600 million in annual sales. The company went public in 1993 and, in addition to its Canadian business, also operated internationally through a joint venture partnership in Latin America.
Larry was the Founder (1994) and joint venture partner of Electronics Boutique (Canada) Inc., a retailer of video game related products. The Company currently has over 330 locations across Canada. Electronics Boutique U.S.A. purchased this interest in 1999.
Larry was also the Founder (1995) and member of the Board of Directors of Ironside Technologies Inc., (a company that specialized in creating B2B Internet electronic commerce software solutions). Ironside was acquired in June 2003 by SSA Global.
Larry was a member of the Board of Lavalife (2001), one of the first social networking websites in North America and represented the equity interest for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. In 2004 as part of the deal committee, Larry assisted in the sale of Lavalife, a privately-held company, to Vertrue, a U.S. public company.
In addition to having served as a Governor on the Governing Council, University of Toronto, and as a member of their Business Board, in 2009 Larry co-chaired with The Honourable Henry (Hal) N. R. Jackman the President’s Commission on Investment Policies. Larry is a board member and volunteer for a number of business and community organizations.
In 2012, Larry was instrumental in the founding of the Creative Destruction Lab, an entrepreneurial endeavour within the Rotman School that hosts a unique program for massively, scalable technology-based ventures. Larry was also a member of the CDL Advisory Board.
As Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Larry is available by appointment to meet with Rotman students to guide them in their entrepreneurial aspirations.
