SESSION SYNOPSIS: Major decisions are expected at and following the historic 19th Party Congress slated to meet on October 18, 2017 in Beijing. As President of China Xi Jinping begins his second term, a key question will be “Where Will China Head in the Next 5 Years and Beyond?” At this session WANG Yong, Professor and Director, Center for International Political Economy, Peking University, will discuss details and implications of these decisions and this question with Rotman's Wendy Dobson.

BIOGRAPHY: WANG Yong is Professor at School of International Studies, and the Director of the Center for International Political Economy Research, Peking University, Beijing China. He is also Professor at Party School of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Appointed Lecture Professor for the HKSAR Senior Civil Servants Training Program on Chinese Affairs at Peking University, Lecture Professor of Ministry of Commerce African Diplomat Training Program at Peking University and Consultant for Asia Development Bank(ADB). He is Member of World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Agenda Council (GAC) on the Global Trade System and FDI, Member of the Evian Group@IMD's Brains Trust, and the Member of Board of Directors at Center for Regional Security Studies at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Prof.Wang Yong’s research interests cover Chinese political economy and foreign relations, international political economy, political economy of trade, US-China economic relations and global governance. His authored books include the Political Economy of International Trade (2008) and the Political Economy of China-U.S. Trade Relations (2007). Recently he has worked on the issues of global economic rebalancing, international monetary reform, US-China relations and G20, emerging economies and BRICS, and has published papers in international journals including International Affairs, Oxford Review of Economic Policy, Review of International Political Economy and Global Asia. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Global Asia, the Journal of Global Governance, and the Journal of Human Security.
