Synopsis: As companies, civic organizations and governments are faced with problems that have greater complexity and ambiguity, planning processes should become faster and more integrated. The challenge is that taking less time and gaining a holistic view are normally at odds with each other. Patrick Whitney will show a new approach, called “Whole View”, for the initial framing of projects. Rather than start with user insights and work towards concepts, it simultaneously incorporates insights about users, strategy, operations and offerings. This creates a “sketch” of the organization that takes much less time than normal early phase plans, lasting hours or days rather than months.

About Our Speaker: Patrick Whitney is Professor in Residence in the Harvard School of Public Health where he brings design to public health and other fields concerned with the health and wellbeing of society. He was previously Dean of the IIT Institute of Design where he was instrumental in building the fields of human-centered design and strategic design.
