What really stood out for me in Rotman's Strategic Human Resource Management Program was the learning experience. Hugh and Rose are absolutely phenomenal teachers, leaders, mentors and coaches. I learned a lot from them and they are both very inspirational. The discussions were fantastic in that we weren't being lectured to as students but were being engaged in a discussion as adults. Also the discussions and examples shared were personal examples that Rose and Hugh relayed – they were real examples where we got to see what worked and didn't work.
Director, HR Business Solutions
Drive performance by aligning human resource practices through an examination of the critical intersections between strategy and human capital. Interaction with Rotman faculty, thought leaders and practitioners allows for the exploration of latest research, best practices and thinking in areas such as business and human resource strategy, leadership development, talent management and succession planning.
Over the course of five days participants will explore the critical elements that compose a successful human resource strategy including how to align strategy, people, performance and culture. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding into the challenges and dilemmas that senior human resource leaders face in their complex roles as strategist, change agent, integrator and business manager.
Welcome to the new normal. What does it mean for leaders? By Rose M. Patten and Hugh J. Arnold.
The program content is sequenced and integrated in a coherent way to ensure maximum learning and knowledge reinforcement. Each session considers and adopts appropriate adult learning principles to promote participant engagement in the classroom and even post program. The half-day follow-up session is an opportunity for participants to share what they have learned from the program, including what elements were most useful, what worked for them and what did not. It is also a chance to solicit feedback from faculty and peers on obstacles they may have encountered implementing program best practices and seek advice on “wicked issues” that challenge them professionally.

I came to Rotman's Strategic Human Resource Management Program seeking knowledge in succession planning and what I came away with was the skill set to look at things differently and with a new perspective.

Who Should Attend
This program is designed for individuals with a minimum of five years of managerial experience. Professionals who will benefit from this program are:
- HR professionals who wish to gain a more integrative and strategic perspective on human resources
- Senior managers taking on HR responsibilities after success in other functional areas
- Mid-level HR managers moving into senior level positions
As a result of Rotman's Strategic Human Resource Management Program, I was able to take a step back and make sure that the entire organization was engaged, and had a good understanding of the project I was working on. Seeking alignment has made the project run more smoothly than if I had forged ahead, as planned.

As a learner in the Strategic Human Resources Management Program, the half-day follow up session offered excellent value. Reconnecting with the facilitators and with other participants to review the application of our learnings in our workplaces solidified many aspects of the program for me. Hearing from fellow participants about their successes and challenges in advancing the application of the course’s concepts and models demonstrated we are all making progress and that our opportunities are similar across our organizations, whether they are small or large, public or private.
