Criteria: Finding the Right Fit

The Evening MBA program is designed for intellectually curious individuals with a global perspective on management, and a demonstrated potential for high achievement, both academically and professionally. The School considers your academic credentials alongside outstanding achievement, ability to work in teams, and leadership potential. At least two years of full-time work experience with a record of accomplishment in employment is required (four years is preferred). The School takes a holistic approach to admissions and considers each student individually, with the goal of admitting the most exceptional overall candidates.

The following criteria are used in assessing candidates:
  • Undergraduate Degree GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.0 in the final year of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (international degree equivalencies available on the Rotman website).
  • GMAT / GRE Score: A GMAT or GRE score must be submitted. The GMAT range for the 2011 class was 550-780 and the average score was 663.
  • Work Experience: On average, applicants have four years of work experience. Two years of experience is required.
  • References: Two letters, preferably from workplace supervisors from current and previous employment.
  • English Language Proficiency (one of the following):
    -  Undergraduate or graduate degree from an recognized English language university
TOEFL iBT (internet based test) score of 100 overall, with a minimum of 22 on speaking and writing
    IELTS score of 7.0

Additional Skill Requirements

The Rotman School strongly recommends that entering students have a solid foundation in undergraduate-level mathematics. Basic algebra is necessary and advanced algebra and basic calculus are desirable. It is assumed that students will have a good level of facility with word processing, the Internet, and spreadsheet programs. Students who feel they need upgrading in computer skills should consult the brochure for the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.

Interpersonal skills and team-based competencies are attributes associated with successful managers that we value at the Rotman School. We specifically address skill development in these areas in our MBA programs. Although we recognize that skill development in these areas is a long-term process, we encourage successful applicants to the program to pursue courses, programs, and situations that will foster and sustain interpersonal skill development and team-based competencies.

For these occasions, students will need to have access to a laptop configured to the Rotman wireless network. Rotman does not provide laptop computers and it is the student's responsibility to own or have access to a laptop that is configured to the Rotman wireless network.

A preferred vendor program has been arranged with Dell Computers and is available to our students only after they register in the program. Read more about the Rotman Wireless Laptop Program.
