Competitions > 10th Commerce Trading Competition

Introduction

The Commerce program and the Financial Research and Trading Lab are pleased to present to you the 10th Annual Commerce Trading Competition. The competition is a one day event, open to St.George undergraduate Commerce students at the University of Toronto.

The event took place this year on Friday, November 29th at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management.

Every year this competition allows students to identify their interests in the field of finance and gives them hands on experience to what a typical job in the field of finance would involve.

Training sessons for the Rotman Interative Trader software were held at the lab prior to the competition to help participants prepare for the competition.

Events

Sales & Trading

This case is designed to simulate the job of a real world institutional trader. Throughout the trading period, participants will receive orders from large institutions to buy or sell stocks at a certain price. Participants will attempt to make the most money by effectively evaluating and taking advantage of these opportunities. Success will also depend on participants' ability to observe the behaviour of the markets and make timely trades.
This case is simulated by Rotman Interactive Trader, an exchange platform developed by FRTL. Click here for more information on RIT and RIT cases.

Outcry

After the successful launch of this event at the Rotman International Trading Competition, the trading floor simulation is now a signature of the competitions hosted by the Financial Research and Trading Lab. The outcry case allows participants to experience the excitement of traditional floor trading, while making deals with others in an intense and fast paced environment.
