Welcome to the Financial Research and Trading Lab (FRTL) at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. The FRTL is a state-of-the-art facility that combines some of the most advanced computer hardware with sophisticated financial analysis software and databases.

Sponsors

The Rotman FRTL is generously sponsored by the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF). From a total ORCDF contribution of $3.75 million, $2 million was allocated to funding the FRTL and $0.75 million was endowed to fund graduate fellowships. We are grateful to the ORCDF for their support.

FRTL Mandate

  • To enhance the Rotman School's teaching and training by providing students with access to the global financial community and its resources in a real-time setting.
  • To contribute to the integration of theory and practice by delivering hands-on experience to users in order to enhance the global competitiveness of our students and our School.
  • To become an innovator in new curriculum development, business initiatives, software development & other activities of value to the Rotman School and business communities.
  • To provide a focal point for research and training in a range of financial disciplines, including: investment strategy and portfolio management; financial engineering and risk management; trading; and analysis of the microstructure of markets.

The FRTL employs 17 part time lab assistants to help students and faculty throughout the year. If you’re interested in finding out more about the lab, feel free to come in with your questions during their scheduled hours.
