STUDENT LIFE
At the Rotman School, you will find yourself challenged
and motivated to excel by the high calibre of your
classmates — peers who will provide a lifetime network
of friends and business contacts. The Rotman School
deliberately seeks out students who have done interesting
things with their lives since completing their undergraduate
education. Our students have worked in the real world
for an average of five years, travelled, and sought out
experiences that make for an incredibly dynamic class.
These are people with a winning track record and a
story to tell, who will enrich your learning in endless
ways. Natty Yagudin ’09, who worked for Moody’s
in New York City as a systems analyst before coming
to Rotman, was impressed by the talent and diversity of
her classmates. Here’s how she described her ‘super star’
group members in her MBA blog: “One of them
completed a master’s at Stanford, another is an engineer
who travelled all over the world for his job, and another
is an English major from China who worked in the
banking industry before moving to Canada two years ago.
Every student I meet has an interesting background
and something to add to the conversation.”
Student Clubs
The student-elected Graduate Business Council is an umbrella organization for all student groups and clubs. Students can network informally and blow off some steam by joining the Rotman Wine Society or the Ultimate Frisbee Club; meet others who share their professional
interests by joining the Health Care and Biotechnology or Marketing Associations; or get involved with the School's Net Impact Chapter to help stage the annual Non-Profit Career Fair.
The social aspects of the Rotman MBA are an integral part
of the program: whatever your interests, there’s something for you: for a list of active clubs and more on the Graduate Business Council , visit www.rotman.utoronto.ca/studentlife
Rotman Ambassadors
These first and second-year MBA students are available to provide insight and assistance to prospective and newly-admitted students to make their decisions more informed and their transition to the MBA lifestyle more seamless. Click here to meet the 2009-10 team.
Student Services
The Rotman School provides a supportive and caring environment as you pursue your MBA. Staff in our Program Services area and Corporate Connections Centre provide a positive, customer-service oriented atmosphere. Students often comment on how approachable and helpful our staff and faculty are when they have questions on everything from résumé writing, to choosing electives, to networking.
Pursuing an MBA is a big life decision, not just for you, but for your spouse and family as well. With that in mind, the Rotman School has a club for spouses/partners of MBAs — “Significant Others” — and social events are organized each year so that spouses can form their own network of people with whom to meet and socialize during your time in the MBA program. Also note that students with children can use the services of the University of Toronto's Family Care Office.
