WHY BUSINESS DESIGN & DESIGN THINKING?

“We are on the cusp of a design revolution in business. As a result, today's business people don't need to understand designers better, they need to become designers.”
-- Roger Martin, Dean of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management

The skill of design, at its core, is the ability to reach into the mystery of some seemingly intractable problem – whether it’s a problem of product design, architectural design, or systems design – and apply the creativity, innovation and mastery necessary to convert the mystery to a heuristic – a way of knowing and understanding.  Business design is all about nurturing, developing and using these skills to solve problems in order to create enduring business value.

ROTMAN BUSINESS DESIGN CLUB

Amazing things can happen when you apply the tools of design to the world of business. The Business Design Club is the place where students who have a passion for innovation and are ready to try new approaches to problem solving can be found. The club’s mission is to provide students with opportunities to learn about and practice design thinking methodologies and to interact with design industry professionals.

Our belief is that the winning businesses of tomorrow will be built using design thinking methods and ideas; and that practitioners of design thinking will be at the forefront of uncovering new sources of value in the future economy.

Our goal is to help create a new generation of MBA students who are not only capable business leaders, but also provocative design thinkers.  The nature of business is changing. Unforeseen disruptions, increasing complexity and new competitive forces make succeeding tougher than ever before.

Are you going to just react to the future? Or will you join us in helping to design it?
