grew up on the mean
streets of New York. Okay, the
streets weren’t all that mean, but there were a number of vicious
dogs around.

attended elementary and
secondary school in

this sojourn in the business world, I attended MIT’s Sloan School of Management for an
MBA. I then went on to University of California – Berkeley to
obtain a master’s degree in economics
and a PhD in business administration. At this point, various friends and family
members began to suggest that I should actually get a paying job, so in 1995 I
joined the faculty at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. I then joined the faculty of Harvard
Business School in 1998. Realizing
the error of my ways, I rejoined the
