Former dean, Dr. Douglas Tigert, died on October 19, 2022

The Rotman School is sorry to announce that one of our former deans, Dr. Douglas Tigert, died on October 19, 2022

Douglas Tigert joined the University of Toronto in 1970 as an associate professor of marketing in what was then the School of Business. In 1973 he was promoted to professor of marketing and in 1980, he moved into the role of dean.  He was our dean from 1980 to 1985. During his tenure, the focus of the MBA shifted from being an extension of the Bachelor of Commerce to a program designed to produce managers. This period also saw a deepening of ties with the local business community, the establishment of a number of named professorships, and the introduction of the first executive MBA in 1983.
