Rotman Problem Solving Challenge Offers Full Scholarship to MBA Applicants.

March 11, 2013

Toronto – A unique new competition has been launched by the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management which provides an opportunity for future Full Time MBA students to experience the School’s model based approach to problem solving and use Integrative Thinking to take a deep dive into a messy, unstructured real-world problem.

The winner of the Rotman Problem Solving Challenge will take home the grand prize of full tuition scholarship for the Rotman Full Time MBA program, valued at $87,500. The second place candidate will be awarded a $40,000 scholarship, and the third place candidate $15,000 with additional scholarship money awarded to other participants based on individual and team achievement.

“The Challenge allows participants to experience Rotman’s approach to developing high value decision makers and problem-solvers,” says Niki da Silva, Director, Recruitment & Admissions, Rotman Full Time MBA. “An added bonus is that participants attending the Challenge’s final weekend will connect with their potential future classmates.”

In the first round all participants will be asked to provide a written submission to a problem posed to them in the registration package. The top fifty responses will be invited to travel to the Rotman School to present their submissions at the Problem Solving Challenge Weekend on April 12 & 13. In the final round of the Challenge, the top 12 participants will be put into groups of four to present their decision as a newly formed “executive team.”

In order to be eligible for the competition, participants must be accepted to the 2013 intake of the Rotman Full-Time MBA Program. Those who are interested in participating who have not yet submitted applications to Rotman are required to verify their eligibility by providing a résumé and a GMAT score along with their initial submission for the competition.
