Toronto, July 10, 2012 - Rotman School Expands Faculty with New Appointments

Seven new faculty members will be joining the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management for the 2012/13 academic year. Appointments have been made in the areas of strategic management, marketing, accounting, finance and business economics. 
 
Spike Lee joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of marketing. He is completing a PhD in social psychology from the University of Michigan. His research focuses on how abstract, complex experience in social domains such as morality and love influence concrete, perceptual experience across the five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching).
 
Chayawat Ornthanalai comes to the Rotman School as an assistant professor of finance from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was also an assistant professor. His teaching and research interests lie in the area of asset pricing, credit risk, fixed-income, and financial econometrics. His recent research focuses on investigating the role of systematic risks in explaining the cross section of option prices, and analyzing jump risks in credit derivatives.
 
Andras Tilcsik joins the Rotman assistant professor of strategic management from Harvard University where he is completing a PhD in organizational behaviour. His research interests include organizational theory, economic sociology, work and performance, labour markets and discrimination, institutions and organizational change, political processes in organizations and corporate social practices. 
 
Heski Bar-Isaac will be an associate professor of business economics at the Rotman School. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University. His research focuses on theoretical models of information and reputation, and applications to the Internet, marketing, credit ratings, organizational design and organized crime. His work is widely published in journals including American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, and the RAND Journal of Economics.
 
“These new appointments represent faculty of exceptional quality. Each will contribute importantly to further strengthening the School’s teaching and research abilities,” says Joel Baum, professor of strategic management and associate dean, faculty, at the Rotman School.
 
Two new faculty joining the Departments of Management at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) will also be cross-appointed to the Rotman School. 
 
Aida Wahid will be an assistant professor of accounting at UTM.
 
Sam Maglio will be an assistant professor of marketing at UTSC. 
 
In addition, Will Cunningham will be an associate professor in UofT’s Department of Psychology with a joint appointment at the Rotman School in the Marketing Area. Previously he was an associate professor at Ohio State University.
