COVID-19 Questions for Applicants

Latest update: June 25, 2020

We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will update our communication and notifications as needed. You should continue to monitor your email and these FAQs regularly for any important updates.

1) I am unable to write the GMAT/GRE/IELTS/TOEFL test due to test centre closures so I was unable to apply by Round 3 (March 4th) earlier.  How will this impact my application?

Applications are considered on a rolling basis so you can apply at any time before each Round deadline. If you were unable to apply by Round 3 before, we have extended our Round 4 deadline for domestic applicants only by 2 weeks to May 14, 2020.

We highly recommend that you apply by Round 4 deadline even if you submit your application without a GMAT/GRE/IELTS/TOEFL test score, and submit the score to us at mba@rotman.utoronto.ca as soon as you are able to take the test. Our Admissions are done on a rolling basis, so we strongly encourage those of you who are ready to submit an application to do so as soon as possible. We will continue to monitor developments and inform you if there are additional updates to Round deadlines.

2) With Visa Application centers being shut down, I’m not sure I will get my visa by the deadline. Can this deadline be extended?

Given these unforeseen circumstances, we understand there will be visa delays.  We will continue to monitor developments and revise the deadline accordingly.

3) I heard that U of T is cancelling classes. Does this mean my application is delayed?

U of T is not cancelling classes at this time. The Rotman School and U of T continue to operate. Classroom teaching has been cancelled, but all in-person graduate classroom teaching is being delivered in alternate ways. Our building is locked, however staff are all working remotely and are available to support students and prospective students. At this time, we do not expect the cancellation of in-person classes to have any impact on our admissions process. Our admissions team is equipped to continue processing applications and continue conducting online interviews..  You should continue to monitor your email and these FAQs regularly for any important updates.

4) Will my offer of admission be affected by the current situation?

We understand that the introduction of measures in response to the current situation has impacted students from many regions. At present, we do not anticipate that this will prevent students from enrolling at U of T in the Fall and have no plans to rescind or defer offers. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will update our communication and notifications as needed.  You should continue to monitor your email and these FAQs regularly for any important updates.

5) If travel restrictions are still in place in the Fall, will the start of the program be delayed?

We understand that the introduction of measures in response to the current situation have impacted students from many regions. At present we do not anticipate that this will prevent students from enrolling at U of T in the Fall and have no plans to delay Fall classes. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will update our communication and notifications as needed.  You should continue to monitor your email and these FAQs regularly for any important updates.

6) What resources should I be looking to get the most current information on polices and provisions being implemented by the Canadian government?

Here are some additional links for more information on policies and provisions being implemented by the government:

7) I would like to pay my confirmation deposit but the university is not accepting bank drafts or wire transfers at this time. How can I pay my deposit online?

You can pay your confirmation deposit by credit card. The system allows you to do multiple transactions if required. Once you make the payment, the FT MBA Admissions team will get notified immediately and you will receive an email confirmation that the payment was successful. If you are international, we will also be sending you the letter you will need to apply for your study permit along with the receipt of payment.
