Why did you decide to study the Master of Financial Risk Management program?
Coming from a background in Finance, I always wanted to work in a field that is related to Capital Markets. The reason why I decide to join the Master of Financial Risk Management program is because I found myself more suitable for a risk management role, where analyzing data and a strong sense of responsibility are involved. Knowing that the current trend of digitalization and importance to knowing how to code, I feel the importance of strengthening my quantitative knowledge and coding skills. The Master of Financial Risk Management program offers that while providing its candidates the opportunity of working at an industry project, which applies the knowledge we learned from classroom and transform them into work settings, it is the biggest reason why I joined the program.
What were your top reasons for choosing Rotman?
The people at Rotman. I was hooked into joining Rotman from participating in the Rotman International Trading Competition, where I saw the level of people Rotman can bring together. I was impressed with the expertise, kindness, and communication skills from the Rotman students I talked to and competed against and it made me wanted to join them. I had a strong feeling that Rotman would be a great fit for me, now 2 months into the program, I have no regrets.
What are you looking forward to most in the program?
I’m most looking forward to the industry project! Excited to be working with and learning from the experts and professionals in the field to contribute risk related solutions in the real world.
What do you expect to gain in your next 10 months at Rotman?
I expect myself to be more knowledgeable and have a deeper understanding of market risk, which is the field I would like to be work in post-graduation, I also expect myself to be better at leadership and communication skills.
How have you found the online experience at Rotman?
The online experience has been great so far. I know both the staffs and students are working hard to adapt to this new normal. The in-person interaction part is certainly missing and can’t be replaced, but I think Rotman is pushing itself and making the experience as best as it can.
Did COVID-19 make you re-consider your decision to study this year, and if so, what made you decide to continue?
No, COVID-19 did not make me re-consider the decision to pursue a master's degree!
