Fiona Duley is the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions for the Master of Management Analytics (MMA) program, a new Specialized Master’s program at the Rotman School of Management. With nearly a decade of recruitment experience, she is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the admissions process at Rotman. As the new academic year begins, it is the perfect time to consider advancing your education through graduate studies.

Tell me a little about your role at Rotman?

I meet with students at events such as, fairs, information sessions and through the queries they send in to us. I share what the program is about, what we hope students will achieve and the admission requirements. I am very excited to work with the Master of Management Analytics program because the prospective students I’ve talked to so far are energetic, passionate and excited about working with analytics.

What are the challenges and rewards from the role?

The biggest challenge at the moment is spreading the word about the program. As it is such a new program we want to make sure as many prospective students hear about it as possible and consider it for their graduate studies. The reward is meeting prospective students and hearing their questions about the program and sharing their interest in management analytics.  Helping a student match their goals with our program is the best reward - I am just as excited as they are for the program to begin!

What is your advice for students about the admissions process?

I have 4 easy points that I always recommend; research the program, communicate your passion, make your application come to life and make sure you edit and review everything before you submit.

You should understand what the program is and why this is the program that you want. That will help your application come across stronger. Share with us your passions and why you want to do the program. That will help you put your best application forward. Also, have someone review your written essay. Make sure you’re not missing a word or you’re not misspelling anything. This goes for your resume as well. A second look will help make sure it makes sense and gets your great experience across. When you reach out to your references, ensure they remember you and they know what you’re applying for and why you want it.

How can students make the most of the admissions process?

Going to the events, and fairs are a great way to meet us and learn more about the program. We encourage you to ask all the questions you can possibly think of whether it’s in an email or in person, we’re happy to answer them.  Then come to an event and experience what it’s like to be a Rotman student.  Our goal is to help you succeed in your career. The admissions process is designed to help you convey your excellent skills and experience. We want to meet the real you.

Why should students apply to the MMA program?

Data analytics is a field that is evolving in terms of the breadth and the width of what it can do and what it can help businesses achieve. We have so much data available to us at the moment and there’s a multitude of ways that it can be applied. The whole field is really looking for individuals who can take advantage of that by applying both their technical and the managerial skills to it.

Please visit our website to learn more about the admission criteria. If you have any questions, contact the admissions team.
