COVID-19 FAQs for applicants
Latest update: October 4, 2021
We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will update our communication and notifications as needed. You should continue to monitor your email and these FAQs regularly for any important updates.
Rotman has successfully transitioned to online delivery of classes, supplemented by distanced and safe in-person classes where possible. We are following guidance from government health authorities and will return to regular in-person classes when the situation allows.
If you are thinking of applying
All of our programs are currently accepting applications for to start in 2022 entry; please refer to each program's admissions page for application deadlines. Here are some responses to questions you may have about starting next year.
The GMAT/GRE/IELTS/TOEFL is required for my application but the test centre is closed. How will this impact my application?
If a GMAT/GRE/IELTS/TOEFL test is required for your application, we recommend that you submit your application without a GMAT/GRE/IELTS/TOEFL test score and submit the score to us as soon as you take the test. We will continue to monitor developments and inform you if there are additional updates to program deadlines.
For more information on GMAT testing information please refer to the GMAC website.
For GDipPA, MFRM and MMA candidates: My studies have been affected by COVID-19, and my university has allowed course grades to be adjusted to CR/NCR or Pass/Fail. How will this affect my offer and admission to the program?
Due to the disruption to academic program delivery arising from COVID-19 in the Winter 2020 semester, we wanted to provide more clarity to students on how decisions of Credit (CR)/No Credit (NCR) in Winter 2020 might affect their admission to our programs. Other institutions may have equivalent versions of the University of Toronto’s CR/NCR grade. CR/NCR may therefore be equivalently defined, but not limited to, Pass/Fail, and Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory from other institutions.
The revised admission policies provided below for our existing programs apply only to CR/NCR grades chosen in the Winter 2020 term. For CR/NCR grades chosen in other terms, the admission requirements outlined in the School of Graduate Studies calendar would apply.
Note: We can only provide guidance on admissions to Rotman programs and cannot advise on the need for grades in the future by other graduate programs, professional programs, or employers.
Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (GDipPA)
Applicants can elect Credit (CR)/No Credit (NCR) grades for their core and non-core courses taken during the winter 2020 term in the Accounting Specialist. Applicants are still expected to maintain a 70% cumulative average on all core courses. Specifically,
- A CR/NCR awarded for a non-core course will be deemed equivalent to meeting the CPA minimum grade requirement of 50%. Non-core courses include Introductory Financial Accounting, Introductory Management Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business Law and Information Technology.
- A CR/NCR awarded for a core course will be deemed equivalent to meeting the CPA minimum grade requirement of 60%. Core courses are all other courses except those identified as a non-core course. If a course is not clearly included as a non-core course it defaults to a core course.
- The program will continue to require admitted students to have a 70% overall average for their core courses when they apply to the program. All core courses awarded a CR/NCR will be excluded in the calculation of the required 70% cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for entrance into our GDipPA program.
Note: applicants should exercise caution in choosing CR/NCR for their core courses in the Accounting Specialist since grades above the 70% overall average may actually benefit them in future admission to the GDipPA program.
Master of Financial Risk Management (MFRM) and Master of Management Analytics (MMA)
We base admissions to all our graduate program on a wide variety of criteria. No applicant to our graduate Master’s programs will be disadvantaged by choosing a Credit (CR)/No Credit (NCR) for courses taken during the Winter 2020 term. In graduate programs with required pre-requisite courses for admission, like the Master of Financial Risk Management, a CR/NCR grade in a pre-requisite course would fulfill the pre-requisite requirement for admission.
