Job Seekers Guide for the Energy Industry

Finding companies

    • Canadian Company Capabilities (Industry Canada)
    • Click on "Search for NAICS Code"
    • Click on "+" sign beside "21 - Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction" and "22 - Utilities"
    • Choose areas of interest and limit futher using province, city, etc.
    • Click "search"

    Try LexisNexis or Mergent to generate company lists.

    Industry reports

    • Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
    • Under "S & P Publication Search", use the drop down menu to locate either: "Oil and Gas: Production and Marketing", "Oil & Gas: Equipment and Services", or "Natural Gas Distribution
    • Click the orange search arrow to retrieve the report
    • Investext-Mergent
    • Click on the "Research" tab
    • Under the "More options" section, click on the drop-down menu for "Industry" and select "SIC"
    • Click on the "Lookup industry codes" icon and use codes such as 499A and 1311 to find reports on the energy industry

    Company specific reports

    • Investext-Mergent
    • Click on "Company views"
    • In the search box beside "Symbol/Name", type in the stock ticker or company name
    • Click "Go" (Investext will not have reports on all companies)

    • Vault Career Insider (Registration required)
    • Click on "Reviews and ratings"
    • Click on "Companies"
    • Click on "Best Oil & Gas Companies" or "Best Alternative Energy Companies"
