Mark Britnell, Vice Chair and Global Health Expert, KPMG UK

Mark has been a health system leader, initially in the UK and then globally, for three decades.  He has worked in 80 countries on ~345 occasions helping governments, public and private sector organisations with strategy, policy, and delivery. 

After serving as the Global Chairman and Senior Partner for Healthcare, Government & Infrastructure for KPMG International from 2009 to 2020, Mark returned to KPMG UK as Vice Chair.  Prior to joining KPMG he served as Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham in the UK’s National Health Service. Recently he was a guest lecturer in the Rotman School’s Global Executive MBA for Healthcare and the Life Sciences program (GEMBA-HLS), speaking from his first book ‘In Search of the Perfect Health System’.   Published in 2015, the book has sold in over 100 countries and has now been translated in Mandarin, Korean and Portuguese. His second book, ‘Human: Solving the global workforce crisis in healthcare’ was published in 2019 and has become a best-seller.

Mark will bring his extensive global experience to our work in health sector management at the Centre through several initiatives with students, staff, and faculty. Among other activities, he will advise students in our GEMBA-HLS program, will deliver lectures at Rotman and during the HLS module in London UK, and will join our Advisory Board.
