Toronto – Two global pension and investment leaders, Rob Bauer and Donald Raymond, have been appointed to the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management (Rotman ICPM), an internationally-recognized research centre for effective pension design and management at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Rob Bauer was appointed to a five year term as executive director of Rotman ICPM. He has been involved with the Centre since its inception in 2005. He was a member of the board from 2005 through 2010; as a representative of Algemene Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds, a Rotman ICPM research partner from the Netherlands from 2005 to 2007; and, as an independent board member from 2007 to 2010. He then served as the Rotman ICPM’s associate director programs in charge of discussion forums until his initial appointment as executive director in May 2014.

Bauer is also a professor of finance (chair: institutional investments) at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He is internationally recognized for his research on pension funds, mutual funds, behavioural finance, socially responsible investments, and corporate governance. He advises several pension funds and other institutional investors on pension and investment related subjects.

Donald Raymond, an adjunct professor at the Rotman School, has been named as special advisor to the Dean and chair emeritus of Rotman ICPM. Raymond is currently managing partner and chief investment officer of Alignvest Management Corporation. Prior to joining Alignvest in April 2014, he served for over 12 years on the senior management team of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), most recently as its first Chief Investment Strategist. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2001, he worked for Goldman Sachs for seven years. He holds a PhD in engineering from Queen's University, where he is also currently on the Board of Trustees and chairs its Investment Committee.

At the Rotman School, Raymond served on the founding advisory board for Rotman ICPM, from 2005 until March 2014, serving the last 6 years as chair. Since 2010 he has taught the Investments course in the school’s Master of Finance program with faculty in the school’s finance area. In his new role, he has a mandate to provide leadership on the strategic direction of Rotman ICPM as well as the development of new initiatives. He will also connect the activities of Rotman ICPM with the Canadian pension community and develop capacity within the Rotman School to play a larger on-going role in the centre’s work.

The mission of the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management (Rotman ICPM) is to be an internationally-recognized, high-impact catalyst for fostering effective pension design and management.
