New Flexible Internship Program Introduced for Full Time MBA Students at University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

January 30, 2017

Toronto – The Full Time MBA program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management has launched the Flexible Internship Program which is a significant innovation to the traditional MBA Program structure and will allow students greater customization of their MBA experience. Effective immediately, Rotman Full Time MBA students can choose from one of three work term options in the second year of the program beginning with the traditional Summer term for internships but also adding the Fall and Winter/Spring terms.

The change creates entirely new internship opportunities for Rotman students and also gives access to Rotman students on a year-round basis to potential employers. In addition, students will be required to complete the course “Applied Management: Placement” in conjunction with the work placement, which is designed to reinforce the important learnings from the first year core curriculum with practical application and professional reflection under the guidance of the School’s world-class faculty.

“This was an extensive consultative process with employers across diverse industries and functions, students and faculty. We saw a huge opportunity to maximize career options for our students with year-round labour market demand and challenge our students to an even higher level of performance through rigorous faculty guidance," says Karen Jackson-Cox, Director, Full-Time MBA Career Centre.

This new structure builds on the experiential learning component of the internship – a core part of the Rotman experience – and integrates this with three critical pillars of the Rotman Full Time MBA program:  the school’s intensive focus on self-development, its globally recognized faculty, and one of the largest Career Centres in North America with a dedicated team of career coaches assigned to individual students.

“With this new structure, Rotman is introducing a truly integrated approach to supporting career transformation in the MBA market.  We are excited to see how the employment market responds to the new model of year-round Rotman talent. We think this is a game-changer” says Niki da Silva, Managing Director, Full-Time MBA Program.
