Rotman MBA Students Advance to Global Finals of the Venture Capital Investment Competition.

Toronto – A team of students from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management Full-Time MBA program won the Canadian Regional Finals of the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC), an international event for MBAs to learn about venture capital investing.

The team of Joseph Smith, Muhammad Hassan, Marita Winslade, Rob Hiff and Ryan Gertler from the MBA Class of 2020 had advanced to the regional finals by winning an event hosted by REVCA, an entrepreneurship and venture capital student club at the Rotman School, in November.

Six teams participated in the regional final in which teams of MBA students played the role of a venture capital firm that must go through the entire VC investment process by interacting with real entrepreneurs while being judged by venture capital funders. The event was held at the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University on March 8. Teams from the Rowe School of Business at Dalhousie University, Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, University of New Brunswick and Smith School of Business at Queen’s University also participated.

The winning team will join the winners of eleven other regional finals from the United States, Asia and Europe at the Global Finals at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School on April 12.
