International Study Opportunities

Global Perspectives

Join the largest and most diverse MBA program in Canada, located in the heart of the world's most multicultural city. Outside of Toronto, you will have a range of opportunities to gain international experience while at Rotman to prepare yourself for business in the global economy.

If you want your business education to prepare you for success in the global economy, Rotman’s location is a major asset: Toronto is recognized as the world’s most multicultural city, with over half the city’s population born outside of the country. Helping to bring the world into the classroom, the Rotman Full-Time MBA program is the most internationally diverse MBA class in Canada (50% of the Full-Time MBA class) and boasts a more international faculty (71%) than almost any other leading business school.

You can further internationalize your MBA by taking advantage of some of these opportunities:

International Study Tours

International Study Tours are designed to provide a framework with which to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with the emergence of major new markets in the world economy. The trips include stopovers in major cities where students will learn firsthand what it is like to do business while participating in a number of cultural and tourist activities. Site visits to local, Canadian and international companies provide students with a well-rounded overview of the specific country.

Tours offered during the 2014-2015 academic year were:

  • China
  • Middle East
  • India
  • Latin America

Doing Business Internationally (DBI) Intensive Program

The DBI offers alternative international experience: a hybrid of the International Exchange Program and the International Study Tours. Based at one of Rotman’s international partner schools, the DBI is an intensive course that focuses on how to do business in a specific country. The academic component of the program is overseen entirely by the partner school (in much the same way as the International Exchange Program) but does take place over the course of 1-2 weeks. Like the International Study Tours, the program includes activities outside of the classroom including company presentations, tours, roundtables table discussions, but these are truly secondary to the in-class piece.

DBI intensive programs offered during the 2014-2015 academic year included:

  • Taiwan
  • China
  • Germany

Global Consulting Projects

Global Consulting Projects enable our students to earn course credit for applying what they’ve learned across the globe. In the past, our students completed projects in the following locations:

  • Seattle
  • Silicon Valley
  • Tanzania
  • Nigeria
  • Myanmar

Projects have ranged from setting up micro financing systems to improving entrepreneurial opportunities for at-risk communities. As well, our students have the opportunity to work with Boston Consulting Group and partner with the non-profit, CUSO International, to bring their projects to life!
