Professional Positions
I am an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Prior to joining Rotman in 2004, I was an Assistant Professor of Corporate Strategy and International Business at the University of Michigan, a position I took up immediately upon completing my PhD in Business and Public Policy at the Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley.
I am an Associate Editor in the Business Strategy department at Management Science and also serve on the editorial board of Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and Strategic Organization. I am also a member of the Strategy Research Initiative, an action-oriented community seeking to build institutions and disseminate resources that help strategy researchers raise the bar of scholarship.
Research
My research focuses on firms' organizational strategies, particularly those related to alliances and other collaborative strategies in international markets. Recent papers include studies on the scope and competitive effects of R&D alliances, technology transfer through in-licensing activities, dispute resolution in vertical exchange contracts, and the role and performance effects of equity affiliation in Japanese automotive supply chains.
