As a result of the agreement between CUPE and the University of Toronto, the practices for hiring Part Time Instructors and Teaching Assistants have been modified. There are now two Collective Agreements covering these employment groups:
CUPE 3902 - Unit 1
This agreement covers Teaching Assistants (TA) or Course Instructor positions to be filled by current students at the University of Toronto.
CUPE 3902 - Unit 3
This agreement covers Instructors who teach for the University of Toronto on contracts of less than one year. These instructors are now called Sessional Lecturers.
Sessional Lecturer positions are to be filled by those who are not current students at the university nor postdoctoral fellows nor appointed staff members (but who may be students registered at another university).
CUPE 3902 - Unit 3 also covers TAs who are not currently registered as students at the University of Toronto (but who may be students registered at another university). Under this agreement, Teaching Assistants are referred to as Sessional Instructional Assistants (SIAs).
