UofT’s Rotman School of Management and Canadian Corporate Counsel Association Launch Certification Program for Canadian In-House Counsel.

April 16, 2013

Toronto – The Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA) and the Rotman School of Management announced yesterday that they are jointly launching a certification program for Canadian in-house counsel, which will develop and assess the skills, knowledge and attributes essential for transitioning from an external legal position to that of a strategic internal business partner.

The announcement was made on Monday at the CCCA National Spring Conference by Grant Borbridge, Q.C., Chair of the CCCA, and Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School of Management. The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto is the academic partner of the Certification Program.

Developed jointly over the past year by the CCCA’s Certification Committee and the Rotman School of Management, the certification program fulfills the learning and competency needs required by in-house counsel who are looking to advance in their careers to a General Counsel position or to the executive level.

Comprised of in-person learning, online learning and an experiential component, students will complete the program in approximately one to two years. The first cohort will begin the process in 2014. Upon completion, graduates will receive the designation CIC.C (Certified In-House Counsel. Canada).
