Health Care Management Expert Joins the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – A highly respected expert in health care management, Debbie Fischer has joined the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management as an Executive in Residence.

Most recently Executive Vice President, Strategy and Organizational Development at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Fischer brings her expertise in health care management to her new role at the School’s Centre for Health Sector Strategy which will include the Centre’s activities in executive education in the health sector, a specific area of passion of Fischer’s.

A well-rounded business executive, as a member of Mount Sinai Hospital’s executive leadership team, Fischer was responsible for a broad spectrum of critical areas including the organizational development, diversity, diagnostic (laboratory and medical imaging), corporate planning, communications and marketing and community partnership portfolios. During her tenure at Mount Sinai, she was also asked to lead a major transformation initiative of the entire Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, completed during her three - year secondment to the Ministry as Assistant Deputy Minister, Transition.

Fischer’s previous experience also includes a number of senior positions with international professional services firms including Ernst and Young where she was part of the Health Care and Life Sciences Group. She has led innovative transformations and has a wealth of experience in corporate strategy, organizational development and leadership, restructuring, governance and change management.

Fischer has a BSc (Neurobiology and Comparative Physiology) from McGill University and MHA from the University of Ottawa.  She also holds a CHRP and an ICD.D  from the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School.

Since it was launched in 2004, the Rotman School’s Centre for Health Sector Strategy, under the leadership of Prof. Brian Golden, has developed a research agenda that is aimed at producing actionable management knowledge for the health sector and the life sciences. The Rotman School also offers an MBA Major in Health Sector Management as well as varied Executive Programs for health-care professionals.
