Toronto – After an intense weekend of idea generation and prototyping, three teams rose to the top to win prizes in the first ever Startup Hackathon held at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
Organized by the Rotman Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Association (REVCA) and the Business & Technology Group, two Rotman MBA student clubs, the weekend brought together MBAs with engineering and computer science students to work together to develop an idea for a start-up.
Taking home first place was Lexikon, an intelligent legal document management system that solves the problem of getting documents into a system.
In second, was Family Huddle, an app that creates a mobile social network where family members can share documents and photos.
Third place was awarded to Providentia which stimulates the real estate market through predictive analytics.
“It was an inspiring weekend, to see how far a group of MBAs, engineers and computer science students could take an idea,” says Edward On, Rotman MBA’14, an executive of REVCA. “Through events such as the Startup Hackathon, which promotes ‘doing’ rather than ‘strategizing’, we’re contributing to the culture of entrepreneurship which is building at the Rotman School.”
The competition was sponsored by
Softlayer and
Palomino Inc.
Photos from the event are
