Toronto – A team of students from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management’s Full Time MBA program have won the North American leg of A.T. Kearney’s Global Prize 2013, an annual strategic case competition.
The team consisting of Alex Fitzgerald, Michael Fitzgerald, Michael McVety, and Steven Zhao, all students in the first year of the Rotman program, defeated teams representing five of North America’s leading business schools including the Kellogg School of Management, Columbia Business School, Booth School of Business, Ross School of Business and the Tepper School of Business.
In the Global Prize competition teams tackle a case, based on an actual A.T. Kearney client engagement. Throughout the competition, teams had the opportunity to interact with A.T. Kearney consultants as they act as the client in simulations, provide feedback on the team’s efforts, and share their insights on consulting.
“"The four of us are honoured to have had the opportunity to successfully represent Rotman throughout the stages of the Global Prize Case Competition this fall. As a group, we’ve continued to strengthen our great friendship and we’ve learned more about the diverse skills that each of us bring to the table. As a team, we’ve applied this diversity, along with some great new knowledge from our Rotman curriculum, into a fun, collaborative and productive team chemistry. Also, we owe a big thanks to all our amazing upper years for their support and feedback along the way. We’ve truly enjoyed the experience throughout this case comp so far, and can’t wait for more chances to dive into cool problems together in the future,” say the team members.
The Rotman team now advances to the global finals on November 30 to face a team from the London Business School, the winners of the European competition for the Global Prize.
In other case competition news, a team of students from the Rotman Evening MBA program reached the semi-finals of Cerebration, one of the world’s largest case competitions held by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. The team of Dimitrije Jankovic, Zoran Grabovac and Dejan Knezevic, advanced over 650 teams to make it to the semi-finals of the competition. Other semi-finalists included Booth School of Business, Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School, ESADE Business School, Fuqua School of Business, Indian School of Business, Nanyang Business School and the University of St Gallen. The competition was eventually won on November 14 by a team from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina.
