February 17, 2015

Toronto – The top student financial traders from business schools and universities around the world are headed to Toronto this month to participate in the 12th annual Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC). The traders, along with their faculty advisors, from universities from as far away as China, India, Thailand, Ireland and Italy will have their skills tested in the competition which takes place from February 19 to 21 at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

The competition takes place in the Rotman School’s state-of-the-art BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab and will utilize the Rotman Interactive Trader, an order-driven market simulator.  Teams will participate in various activities including electronic and outcry trading cases, seminars with industry practitioners, and social events with their fellow competitors.

Last year, after six rounds of trading, two teams representing LUISS University in Italy and Université Laval in Canada tied for first overall in the competition.

BP Energy Company is the sponsor of the BP Commodities Trading Case this year and is also the main Gold sponsor.  Silver level sponsors are S&P Capital IQ and Optiver US. Additional support is provided by DRW Trading Group, Thomson Reuters and MathWorks.

The Rotman School’s BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is a fully equipped lab designed to promote experiential learning in the area of financial markets and data. The competition cases are implemented over the highly acclaimed Rotman Interactive Trader application, a market simulation tool being used in over 40 universities and financial institutions around the world.
