New Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting Offers Head Start to a CPA.

October 20, 2015

Toronto – A new graduate program in professional accounting at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management will provide students with an accelerated path to their CPA. The Rotman Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (G.Dip.P.A.) is a 12-week summer program to deepen participant’s knowledge of accounting while at the same time completing four modules of the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP).

“The program builds on the strengths of the Rotman School in education,” says Prof. Susan Christoffersen, Vice Dean, Undergraduate and Pre-Experience Programs. “It gives students a competitive edge in their accounting career by completing a significant amount of the CPA PEP modules prior to engaging in full-time employment.”

Seasoned accounting professionals work alongside prominent academic faculty, such as leading academic and co-director Prof. Gord Richardson, to ensure the curriculum is innovative and meets the changing requirements of the accounting profession. Elisa Zuliani, Academic Director, and Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, notes that the program’s focus on integrative case-based learning will provide students with an exceptional ability to analyze complex problems when they graduate.

The Rotman School was recently ranked 4th in the world for faculty research by the Financial Times and has a long-standing commitment to innovation in professional accounting education through the CPA/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education. The addition of this new graduate program reinforces Rotman’s ongoing commitment to teaching excellence in accounting and provides our undergraduates with an accredited program preparing them for their CPA designation.

The G.Dip.P.A. is available to students in their fourth year of study or recent graduates of University of Toronto undergraduate business and management programs who are specializing in accounting. Applications from other equivalent undergraduate business programs may also be considered.

The first classes for the program begin in May 2016. Complete program information, including how to apply, is online.

The Rotman School of Management is located in the heart of Canada’s commercial and cultural capital and is part of the University of Toronto, one of the world’s top 20 research universities. The Rotman School fosters a new way to think that enables our graduates to tackle today’s global business challenges.  For more information, visit www.rotman.utoronto.ca.
