Toronto – A new advisory board has been appointed at the Martin Prosperity Institute (MPI) as the institute also adds two fellows to its 2016 roster.
MPI is a research centre at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. The current focus of the institute is its Democratic Capitalism project, which explores ways to improve the critical underpinnings of our social, political and financial systems.
“Our advisory board brings together thought leaders from around the world and the Rotman School to help give shape the work we are doing here at MPI. As we look to provide actionable recommendations on how to improve the nature and outcomes of democratic capitalism, it is our belief that this board will provide us with the advice and guidance necessary to make a real impact,” says Jamison Steeve, Executive Director.
The board will be chaired by Geoff Beattie, CEO, Generation Capital. Members include:
• Bill Downe, Chief Executive Officer, BMO Financial Group;
• Arianna Huffington, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief, The Huffington Post;
• Nina Mažar, Associate Professor of Marketing, Rotman School of Management, and GINI Behavioral Scientist, Global Insights Initiative, The World Bank;
• Nandan Nilekani, Former Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India and co-founder Infosys;
• William Strange, SmartCentres Chair of Real Estate and Professor of Business Economics, Rotman School of Management; and,
• Tim Sullivan, Editorial Director, Harvard Business Review Press.
In addition, two leading thinkers have been appointed as new MPI fellows. MPI welcomes Zeynop Ton, a new fellow for 2016, and Lauren Jones, MPI’s first junior fellow. During their fellowships each will research a specific area for the Democratic Capitalism project.
Zeynep Ton is an adjunct associate professor in the operations management group at MIT Sloan School of Management. With MPI she will be building on her ‘Good Jobs Strategy,’ focusing on creating tools and measurements for organizations to provide working solutions for managers, employees, customers, and investors.
Professor Lauren Jones of Ohio State University is a former colleague of MPI. Professor Jones will aim to identify how high quality childcare impacts the ability of children to move up the social ladder. Her work will examine how community-level measures of access to childcare relate to community-level measures of social mobility.
