Toronto – Three seasoned executives with experience as
entrepreneurs and in the financial services sector have received appointments
at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
Mitchell Goldhar and David Scrymgeour have been
appointed as Adjunct Professors while Jun Yuan has been appointed as an
Executive in Residence.
Mitchell Goldhar is the founder of SmartCentres which
developed over 250 shopping centres across Canada in the past 21 years,
including 175 Walmart stores. Recently, he converted SmartCentres into
SmartREIT and became its largest shareholder. SmartREIT is one of Canada’s
largest real estate investment trusts, with an asset value of approximately
$8.4 Billion. He has taught a popular elective in the Rotman MBA program on the
real estate industry and real estate development for more than ten years. He
holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from York University.
David Scrymgeour, BCom ’79, has served as an Executive
in Residence in the Rotman Commerce undergraduate program since March 2014,
where he has supported students in pursuing their entrepreneurial endeavours.
In addition, he has taught a fourth year course in Rotman Commerce on “The
CEO’s Toolkit. “ After graduating in 1979 from the Commerce program at UofT, he
worked at General Motors and IBM before embarking on his own consulting and
entrepreneurial projects, which have taken him around the world including
Australia, Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and across
Canada. As founder and owner of an information management company, he was at
the vanguard of that industry’s computerization of records management. He has
also founded two skills training businesses and is currently the majority
shareholder of Green Standards Ltd, a company that provides innovative,
environmentally progressive solutions to corporate waste through the
re-purposing of used office equipment. He will continue to serve as an
Executive in Residence in addition to the new appointment.
Dr. Jun Yuan has been appointed as an Executive
in Residence to support the Rotman School’s programs and initiatives in the
area of risk management including the new Master of Financial Risk Management
program. Currently he is a Director of Quantitative Risk Analytics at the Royal
Bank of Canada, leading the team to conduct risk analysis for Capital Markets
from market risk to counterparty credit risk, as well as CCAR. He covers cross
asset classes of OTC derivatives ranging from Interest Rates, FX, and Equity to
Credit. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of
Toronto.
