Toronto – Two research papers authored by faculty members at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management have been honoured by professional and academic organizations.
A paper co-authored by Peter Christoffersen, a professor of finance at the Rotman School, has won the 2013 AIMA Canada Research Award presented by the Alternative Investment Management Association-Canada Inc. Established in 2004, the AIMA Canada Research Award was created to encourage and recognize high-quality applied research in the field of alternative investments in Canada. Prof. Christoffersen and Xuhui (Nick) Pan of the Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, were awarded the prize for their paper entitled “Equity Portfolio Management Using Option Price Information.” Profs. Christoffersen and Pan will share a $10,000 prize.
Prof. Christoffersen is the author of Elements of Financial Risk Management and has been published in leading finance and econometrics journals. He has served as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Financial Econometrics, and the Journal of Risk. He has also won research awards from Q-Group, KPMG, the Montreal Exchange, and STOXX. Prof. Christoffersen has lectured at Bank of America, Bank of Canada, European Central Bank, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prior to joining the Rotman School he was at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University and the IMF.
A second paper from the Rotman School has received the IIE Transactions 2014 Best Application Paper – Scheduling and Logistics award. IIE Transactions is the flagship journal of the IIE, the world’s largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.
“The Maximum Covering Problem with Travel Time Uncertainty” was authored by Profs. Oded Berman and Dmitry Krass with Iman Hajizadeh, a graduate of the Rotman PhD program, who is currently with the Boston Consulting Group. The awards ceremony takes place on June 2 during the IIE Annual Conference & Expo in Montreal.
Prof. Berman holds the Sydney Cooper Chair in Business and Technology at the Rotman School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Operations Research and the Management Sciences. He has received the Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis Award from INFORMS and the Canadian Operational Research Society Award of Merit. His main research interests include operations management in the service industry, logistics, location theory and stochastic inventory control. He served as an Area Editor for Operations Research and as an Associate Editor for Management Science. He is currently an Associate Editor for Transportation Science and Socio-Economic Planning Sciences.
Dmitry Krass is a professor of operations management and statistics at the Rotman School. He has held several administrative positions, including the Area Coordinator for Operations Management and Statistics until 2009 and Director, Operations Management PhD program since 1995. His research interests include service operations, logistics, facility location and management issues, distributive service systems, and analytical modeling in marketing. Over 50 of his peer-reviewed papers have appeared in leading academic journals on Operations Management and Management Science. He has consulted on numerous projects on process design, marketing analytics and decision support systems.
