Hult Prize quarterfinal found to be held at UofT's Rotman School of Management

October 8, 2014

Toronto - The Hult Prize Foundation is a start-up accelerator for budding young social entrepreneurs emerging from the world’s universities. Named as one of the top five ideas changing the world by President Bill Clinton and TIME Magazine, the annual competition for the Hult Prize aims to identify and launch the most compelling social business ideas—start-up enterprises that tackle grave issues faced by billions of people. Winners receive USD 1 million in seed capital, as well as mentorship and advice from the international business community.

For the first time, a special quarterfinal qualifying round will be held at the UofT’s Rotman School of Management specifically for University of Toronto students. Participating teams must include 3 to 5 members of  UofT students of any faculty - including undergrads, masters and PhD students. One member may be a graduate of a UofT program.

This year’s challenge is on “Solving Early Childhood Education in the Urban Slum and Beyond.”

“A million bucks to change the world? This will be on the minds of twenty U of T teams competing on December 6. Via expert judges, all teams will be able to gain presentation experience and incorporate valuable feedback into their pitches before the general admission window closes on December 21. Not only will the top team secure a spot in the Hult Prize Regional Finals next year March, they will also receive rounds of guidance from professors. This is our chance to show the world that Canada's top university - and an international leader in educational research - is dedicated to impact,” says Jason Visscher, a Rotman MBA student and campus director for The Hult Prize at UofT.
