    On October 24, 2019 the Creative Destruction Lab at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management will host our 5th annual “Machine Learning and the Market for Intelligence Conference”. This is not a technical conference. Our focus is on the business opportunities and economic implications arising from the recent advances in Artificial Intelligence.

    The FinHub, Rotman’s Financial Innovation Lab, has assembled a group of experts on payments, payments processing, and the explosion of PayTech. The way we make payments and the way payments are processed is evolving rapidly. Our expert speakers/panelists, drawn from academia and the financial services sector, will share their insights in the evolution of payments and revolution that lies ahead. Maria Smith has over 25 years of experience on the merchant-side of global payments. She will share the insights garnered from her experience with Starbucks, where she led the payment strategy, and Chase where she led the launch of the highly successful Disney Visa Credit Card. Professor Avni Shah, faculty at University of Toronto Scarborough & Rotman School of Management will share her current research on how payment influences consumer decision-making and consumer well-being particularly in financial and health contexts. Todd Roberts, Canadian Payments Leader at Deloitte will give a practitioners’ perspective on trends and pitfalls in payment innovation. Following preliminary remarks on insights into the rapidly changing payments space, Preet Banerjee, consultant to the financial services sector, will moderate a panel discussion amongst our subject matter experts.
